And the child shall be called…

..Champ. I call the baby Champ. So if you hear me talking to myself and uttering the word Champ, I’m just talking to the child I currently carry around all day. Since we’re waiting to find out Champ’s gender until the big day (we’re calling it parents day around here), Champ is gender-neutral. It’s also what Jonathan and I sometimes call each other. I hope this doesn’t get confusing.

Dear Champ, this week you are now the size of the whole of my hand. Or at least that’s what the books tell me. 5 inches long and you weigh as much as a turnip! Please keep growing, but please don’t get a really big head. Mom wants you to have a nice small head that fits easily into hats and through shirts. This morning, while we were lying in bed and Dad was getting ready for work, I felt you move for the very first time! Good job, please keep kicking and punching! I tried to get you to do it again, but you’re pretty stubborn. You’re a pretty amazing miracle already. I can’t wait to see what you look like and teach you about things like plants and flowers and take you to the beach and poke things with sticks together and a million other things that I think about each day. Keep growing! You’re doing a great job!

You’re so cute! I can only imagine what a great mom you’ll be! Once the baby is born you can use the letters in “Champ” to name it. That is, if you like “Pam” or “Chap” or “Mac” or “Map”…okay, that might be a stretch.
